History

Established as a local press manufacturer in 1919, Nilpeter has grown into an international company with a truly global reach. We have pushed the boundaries of technical excellence and have created many of the innovations that have shaped the label printing industry - innovations such as development of UV-flexo printing, drop-in rotative screen printing, and the first true platformed based offset press, using sleeves in the offset process.

1919

Mr. Christian Nielsen & Mr. Axel Petersen meet in a Pub in Copenhagen, Denmark and found the company Nilpeter, originally named C.A. Nielsen & Petersens Maskinfabriker A/S.

The 20s and 30s

The Simplex, Nilpeter’s first press, is launched – it remains part of the range until the seventies.

With gummed paper, Nilpeter evolves from a pure service workshop to a developer and manufacturer of specialised presses.

The 40s and 50s

The Simplex press is re-launched as a semi-rotary letter printing press to print tickets (the labels of the day).

Another press, the Viking Dominator, is developed and marketed.

Stanley Avery develops a new, self-adhesive material in the USA, which is later introduced to Europe.

Both the Simplex and the Viking Dominator establish a strong foothold in the newly emerging European industry.

The 60s and 70s

Production moves to Slagelse, outside of Copenhagen, and an international sales organisation is established.

A new version of the Simplex, dubbed the S-330, is introduced as a combi-machine (letterpress and screen), capable of producing highly sophisticated labels.

Nilpeter launches its very first full rotary flexo press, the Rotolabel F-200. It becomes a milestone in the development of flexo presses and continues to form the basis of flexo rotary printing presses today.

The 80s

A letterpress Rotolabel B-200 is introduced – now the same paper size, dies and tools can be used in both this and the S-330.

In 1981, Nilpeter's 2nd generation Managing Director A. Eriksen passes away. His son, Lars Eriksen, takes over the leadership of the company.

Nilpeter’s new manufacturing plant is built. It quickly becomes famous for its innovative design – no interior walls in the manufacturing hall and no closed doors or offices.

The 90s

A number of large presses are launched. The F- and B-200 models become the basis for building the new, wider F-3000 and B-3000 presses.

In 1992, all activities are centralised in Slagelse, where new production facilities were established in the mid-80s.

In 1994, Nilpeter launches the world’s first true platform press, the MO-3300, by combining offset, flexo, gravure, and screen printing. The technology became the preferred choice with global brand owners for years to come.

Nilpeter develops UV-flexo, offering the ability to combine this with conventional flexo printing.

A joint venture is formed with Stork in Holland to develop a rotary screen printing system.

In 1996, Nilpeter moves into digital printing through an alliance with Xeikon in Belgium, and introduces the DL-3300 computer-to-plate direct imaging system.

2000

Nilpeter introduces its well-defined "TOTAL PERFORMANCE" concept – designed to handle multiple printing techniques, web widths, substrates and solutions with ease.

New sales offices are opened in Thailand (Bangkok) and China (Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen).

2001

Nilpeter acquires the esteemed company Rotopress in Cincinnati, USA, and establishes a solid platform in the pan-American markets. The popular FB-Line is introduced.

2005

At the LabelExpo in Brussels, the FA-Line is launched in various formats. Utilising cutting-edge technology, the FA-Line features direct servo-drives, chill drums and advanced IT to provide incredibly competitive multi-substrate printing.

2006

The FB-Line goes servo at LabelExpo, Chicago, increasing its value for money as the industry's quality workhorse. Over ten presses of the FB-Line are sold during the four exhibition days.

2007

Nilpeter establishes local production of the FBR-Line in São Paulo, Brazil. At LabelExpo Europe Nilpeter introduces its "People-to-People" concept, and launch of both the revolutionary sleeve-based offset platform press MO-4 and CASLON – a four colour InkJet based combination print concept.

2008

The FG-Line is launched at LabelExpo Americas in Chicago with great success, and Nilpeter USA, Inc. expands its production facilities. Nilpeter introduces the Joint Venture Company Nilpeter India Pvt. Ltd. - the first manufacturing base for Nilpeter outside of Europe and the Americas. 

2009

The GP-4 Gravure Unit is introduced.

Nilpeter establishes Nilpeter Middle East in Dubai.

Nilpeter USA, Inc. opens the Technology Center in Cincinnati, OH.

2010

Nilpeter opens the Technology Center in Denmark. The center’s 700 square metres form a unique platform where innovations and emerging technologies are demonstrated in practical business applications.

2011

The FP-4 Flatbed Unit for embossing and hot foiling is introduced.

2012

Nilpeter Andina in Peru is established covering the Andean States of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

The groundbreaking FA-4* and FB-3 are introduced.

2013

Nilpeter India opens the Technology Center in Chennai, India.

2014

Nilpeter East Africa is established with headquarters in Uganda.

2015

Nilpeter launches the complete digital solution PANORAMA.

2017

Nilpeter launches The All New FA, while streamlining and upgrading production facilities in both Denmark and the USA

2018

Nilpeter establishes a brand new, state-of-the-art production plant in India. Nilpeter Latin America opens a new regional headquarter in Sao Paolo.

2019

Nilpeter celebrates its 100th anniversary. Established as a local press manufacturer in Copenhagen in 1919, Nilpeter has since grown into an international company with a global reach.

2020

The first FA-26, built for value-added short run flexible packaging and labels, is installed in North America.

2021

The MO-Line FUSION is introduced, merging Nilpeter's successful flexo platform and value-adding units with modern offset technology.
